Carrie Underwood Biography



Carrie Marie Underwood was born on March 10, 1983 to parents Carole and Stephen Underwood. She grew up in the quiet town of Checotah in Oklahoma. She often worked in her family's cattle farm and regularly sings in the church choir. She was an active member of the Free Will Baptist Church. Aside for singing in her church, she also performs for Old Settler's Day and the Lion's Club. As a young Carrie, she would often perform at the Robbins Memorial Talent Show and the people of Checotah would often remember her performing in state festivals and trade events.

At the young age of 13, she already recorded her first performance under Capital Records. During her schooling, Carrie was never a problem student. She graduated as a salutatorian in Checotah High School and a Magna Cum Laude in the Northern State University. She got a bachelor's degree in Mass Communication major in Journalism. During her teen year, she performed in numerous country shows. She also joined several beauty pageants and bagged a runner up slot in Miss NSU in 2004.

She confidently auditioned for American Idol, the reality TV show who skyrocketed the career of a lot of amateur singers like Kelly Clarkson. Even the controversial judge, Simon Cowell, predicted that the Carrie would win the title. One of her most memorable songs during the fourth season run of the said show is the heartwarming performance of Alone by Heart. With such a talent and a natural appeal to the audience Carrie created a big and loyal fan base known as Carrie's Care Bears who supported her all throughout the competition.

After American Idol, did not fail her fans. Her debut album Some Hearts won for her several awards and a sextuple platinum record. The first week sales of the album made it to the number one spot in the Billboard Top County Album chart.

Jesus, Take the Wheel landed on the no. 39 spot of the Billboard Country Chart during its first week of airplay. The same song won the best country single of the year during the Gospel Music Association Awards. Carrie sang Jesus, Take the Wheel live and with such fervor in May of 2006 during the Academy of Country Music Awards, the same award giving body that gave her the Best New Female Vocalist Award and the Single of the Year song.

Aside from the enchanting voice of Carrie Underwood, she also has numerous awards she can brag about. As early as 2005, she bagged the Teen Choice Award for Choice Reality Female Star and won the Top Selling Hot 100 Song of the Year for her song "Inside Your Heaven" and Top Country Single Sales Artist of the Year by Billboard Music Awards.

Come 2006, She took home Best Female Video of the Year, Breakthrough Video of the Year, and the Most Inspiring Video of the Year Award for Jesus, Take the Wheel awarded by CMT Music Awards. She was also declared the Female Vocalist of the Year Award and was given the Horizon Award by the Country Music Association. The American Music Awards gave her the Favorite New Breakthrough Artist Award.

The year 2006 was a great year for Carrie, she won several Billboard Music Awards that she was nominated in including Female Country Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Country Album of the Year, Country New Artist of the Year and Female Billboard 200 Album Artist of the Year.

Carrie Underwood continued receiving numerous awards in 2007. Fans should grab her second album Carnival Ride, which promises to be a hit for country music fans all over the globe.
